Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website may store on your device when you visit. They help make a website work, keep it secure, or make it more convenient to use. Similar technologies include your browser's local storage.

2. How we use cookies

This website deliberately keeps cookie use to a minimum. We do not use advertising, marketing or cross-device advertising tracking, we do not sell data and we do not embed advertising networks. For audience measurement we additionally use one consent-based analytics cookie (Google Analytics), which is only set with your consent.

Only the following categories are used:

Strictly necessary cookies

Our security and hosting provider, Cloudflare, may set strictly necessary cookies to detect malicious traffic and keep the website secure. These cookies contain no marketing information and are required for secure operation. No consent is needed for them.

CookieDurationPurpose
__cf_bmapprox. 30 minutesSet by Cloudflare to distinguish humans from automated requests (bot detection). Serves the security of the website.
cf_clearanceup to 1 yearSet by Cloudflare only after a security check, storing its result so the check does not have to be repeated.

Cookieless audience measurement

For basic audience measurement we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. This tool works without cookies and without persistent identifiers, and evaluates only aggregated metrics. It therefore sets no cookie and does not create a profile of you. No consent is needed for this tool.

Analytics cookies (consent-based)

To improve our offering, we additionally use Google Analytics 4. This tool sets cookies and is loaded only after you click “Accept” in the cookie banner. If you decline or make no choice, Google Analytics is not loaded and no data is sent to Google. The provider is Google Ireland Limited; this may involve a transfer to the USA. For details, see our privacy policy.

CookieDurationPurpose
_gaup to 2 yearsSet by Google Analytics to distinguish visitors for anonymous usage statistics. Only set after your consent.
_ga_<ID>up to 2 yearsSet by Google Analytics to persist session state. Only set after your consent.

3. Consent and cookie banner

No consent is required for strictly necessary cookies or for the cookieless audience measurement (Cloudflare). For the consent-based analytics cookie (Google Analytics) we obtain your consent in advance via a banner: Google Analytics is loaded only once you click “Accept”. We store your choice locally in your browser so the banner does not reappear on every visit. You can withdraw a consent you have given at any time by deleting this website's stored cookies and local data in your browser.

4. Managing and deleting cookies

In your browser settings you can decide that cookies are only set with your consent, not at all, or only after a notification. You can delete cookies that have already been set at any time. See your browser's help section for how to do this. Please note that the website may not function fully without the strictly necessary cookies.

5. Your rights

Subject to applicable data protection law, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection, as well as the right to have your data released to you. Details and the competent supervisory authority are set out in our privacy policy.
